1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Paula ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

2. Important Medical Disclaimer

Paula is an AI wellness companion, not a licensed counselor, mental health professional, or medical provider. The Service is designed for emotional support, self-reflection, and general wellness guidance only.

Paula does not:

  • Provide medical diagnoses or clinical assessments
  • Prescribe medication or treatment plans
  • Replace professional therapy, counseling, or psychiatric care
  • Provide emergency mental health services

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, suicidal thoughts, or a medical emergency, please contact the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988) or your local emergency services immediately.

3. AI Limitations

Paula uses artificial intelligence to generate responses. While we strive to provide helpful and supportive interactions, AI responses may occasionally be inaccurate, inappropriate, or unhelpful. You should use your own judgment when considering any advice or suggestions from the Service.

Paula's responses are generated in real-time and are not reviewed by human professionals. We continuously work to improve the quality and safety of responses, but cannot guarantee perfection.

4. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. By using Paula, you represent that you meet this age requirement.

5. User Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to extract harmful content from the AI
  • Share your account credentials with others
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service
  • Use automated tools to access the Service

6. Subscriptions and Payments

Paula offers free and premium subscription tiers. Premium subscriptions are billed through Apple's In-App Purchase system (for iOS) or Stripe (for web).

  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
  • You can manage or cancel your subscription through your Apple ID settings or your account profile
  • Refunds are handled according to Apple's refund policy for App Store purchases
  • We reserve the right to change pricing with reasonable notice

7. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.

8. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, features, and content, is owned by Paula and protected by intellectual property laws. You retain ownership of the content you create (journal entries, messages), but grant us a limited license to store and process it to provide the Service.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Paula and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service. This includes, but is not limited to, damages resulting from reliance on AI-generated content.

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violation of these terms. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us at [email protected].

11. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
